Dear God, PLEASE let it be Andrew Garcia! Seriously though, the Idol Top 12 took on the songs of The Rolling Stones last night and it was surprisingly tolerable. I've never been a big "Stones" fan but, overall the show wasn't bad. Garcia was horrible as usual. Winner of the night, Siobhan Magnus...girl was THE standout once again. In other IDOL news, there's an online petition (which I signed by the way) to bring Alex Lambert back. The fact that Lambert, who hadn't had one bad performance, was cut in favor of Garcia is LUDICROUS! Garcia has only had one good performance, and that was BUTCHERING "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul. Go and sign the petition to BRING ALEX LAMBERT BACK! And, watch Idol tonight to see Andrew Garcia cry those big tears when his ass GETS SENT HOME...

Boy do I have a lot to talk about here. I'm becoming really dissatisfied with American Idol. First of all, they got rid of Paula (or, she decided not to renew her contract), whatever happened, she's not there anymore. AND I MISS HER! Now, Simon is leaving at the end of the season. WTF??? And, he's starting X-Factor in America: FAIL...IDOL might as well go off the air without Simon. The only redeeming factor this season has going for it is the addition of Ellen DeGeneres on the judging panel. I know, she has no real background in music. But, I think she kind of speaks for the general viewing public. She knows what she likes, and she knows what she doesn't like. She's not always right (like I am, go back and view my previous Idol posts) but, she's good comic relief since Paula has flew the coop.

Now on to the contestants. Bless their hearts. The only one that I can possibly see being anything resembling a superstar (which IDOL is supposed to produce) is Casey James. So, my prediction is that he will win this year. American done booted off two of the other good ones, Alex Lambert and Lilly Scott. I'm with Lilly "I don't know what America wants to hear." And GOD SAVE ME from Andrew Garcia!!! If I hear him butcher one more vapid '80's or '90's pop song that was ORIGINALLY DONE BY A FEMALE, I'm going to have someone rip both of my eardrums out. HOW THE HELL did he stay when Alex Lambert and Lilly Scott got sent home??? Seriously America, seriously...

It's Been A While

Sorry for the lack of "blogging" but there's really not been much happening. Just the normal stuff. My friend Jason is moving to Louisville, which I think kinda sux. For us, it's good for him I guess. So I'll be helping him move, we went out last weekend and had a blast since that was one of his last weekends in town.

The Oak Ridge Boys have been on a media blitz the past two weeks for their new "The Boys Are Back" cd, which is doing really well on the charts, by the way.

I'm thinking that I may try to take a trip out of town this weekend. I'm so over my life right now that it's not even funny and a trip away might do me good.

Anyhow, that's all for now. As things develop, I'll post!

I've deliberately waited to post anything about the death of Michael Jackson. For the past week, I've been processing all the news stories, all the rumors, all opinions and all the B.S. that surrounded this man in life, and now in death. Honestly, I'm not really sure what I feel about the King of Pop's passing. I know he has an unbreakable link to my childhood, in that the first record I remember owning (besides The Oak Ridge Boys of course) was Thriller, and I had the glove, and a Michael Jackson jacket. I remember being scared pissless the first time I saw the Thriller video. I remember when he did the moonwalk on the Motown 25th Anniversary celebration, I remember the Pepsi Commercial, I remember when the Black or White video first premiered. Then I remember the first allegations of improper behaviour, the kiss with Lisa Marie, the bizarre stunts, the trial, and now I remember exactly where I was when I heard he died.

Michael Jackson was a genius; a phenomenal talent in every sense of the word, a consummate performer. I have no way of knowing what went on in Michael Jackson's private life. It's obvious that the man was troubled, but most ultra-talented people are. So, as I stated in the beginning, I'm not really sure what I feel. I think blogger Emily Sutherland best summed up exactly what I think I feel about Michael Jackson by saying:

For the man who dared to be over-the-top remarkable on-stage, I applaud. But for the human being behind those dark glasses who spent his off-stage time trying to find that guy everyone loved so much, I grieve

Busy Weekend

So, I have a busy weekend coming up. Tonight, I have a bachelor party to go to for one of my best friends. He's biting the bullet and getting married (or so he says). But I'll be nice, congratulations John and Kristen!!! That's them on the right. So, I'll be doing that tonight. Then, tomorrow, we'll begin celebrating one of the greatest days in the history of the world, my birthday! Yeah, I'll be turning ??? so, we're gonna party it up and go out in Louisville. And now, since I've figured out mobile posting to the blog, I'll try to post pics, if they can posted on a PG blog. But, if I don't do the whole mobile posting thing, because I may not be in a shape to, you can follow me on twitter! I'll be "tweeting" the whole weekend. Loretta Lynn Is a Legend, but She’s Also Just Plain Kind

Put simply, Loretta Lynn is the "Queen of Country Music." The just-turned-74 singer occupies rarefied air in the pantheon of country musicians, and deservedly so. She's enjoyed a slew of chart-topping hits since the early '60s, including "Don't Come Home A- Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)," "One's on the Way," "Rated X," and, of course, "Coal Miner's Daughter." She's revered not only for her terrific music, her vivid and authentic storytelling, and her one-of-a-kind voice — a sepia-toned, clarion marvel, all at once feisty, resolute, world-weary, and optimistic — but for writing and singing about philandering, abusive men, and the women who weren't gonna take that crap no more, which turned her into a feminist icon, even for the nominally conservative set.
Along with her friend and fellow singer Conway Twitty, she formed one of the most successful duos in the history of country music, scoring numerous number-one hits throughout the '70s. Her life story was the basis for the excellent 1980 film Coal Miner's Daughter, starring Sissy Spacek (who won an Oscar for her riveting portrayal of Lynn's hardscrabble early years in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky). She had the vision to team up with the White Stripes' Jack White (who did for Lynn what Rick Rubin did for Johnny Cash) on the remarkable 2004 album Van Lear Rose, which perfectly captured her essence for a whole new generation of fans. She's won Grammys and American Music Awards galore, been inducted to multiple Halls of Fame, been feted as a Kennedy Center Honoree, and gotten a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
And, from all accounts, she's a nice, nice lady. In fact, the only negative thing I could unearth about Loretta Lynn —- and it's not even directly about her — comes from my friend Jeremy, who says that her restaurant, Loretta Lynn's Kitchen (in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee) — which serves up some of her family's old-time recipes — "was full of rednecks when I was there in 1995."
I've never been there, so I can't say, but I would love to go because just down the road is yet one more fabulous thing the singer's bestowed upon the world: Loretta Lynn's Ranch, one of America's greatest and most popular roadside attractions. It may not have the roller coasters and log flume rides of fellow country icon Dolly Parton's Dollywood — which is 300 miles to the east in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee — but it's got a Loretta Lynn museum, a replica of her old family shack, a coal mine, a flea market, an RV park, and concert venues where Loretta regularly performs.
Call it hokey, but I think it's charming, and how many of today's female country stars will be able to pull off something like that several decades from now? Taylor Swift Land, where you go into a room, press a button, and hear the entire 27-second phone call in which Jonas Brother Joe broke up with her? Carrie Underwood Park, with a museum featuring wax statues of American Idol's Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest, and the jerseys of all the athletes (the Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo, the Ottawa Senators' Mike Fisher) that she's dated or will date? Nah. Let's face it: Loretta Lynn is the last of her kind — a supremely tough and talented gal who turned coal into diamonds. Every opportunity to see her live is one not to be missed. And despite all the rednecks, I hear the cornbread at Loretta Lynn's Kitchen is fantastic.

So, I was injured on the job yesterday. And I had to get a shot in my arm because of this?? Please, the shot hurt a hell of a lot worse than the cut. Most of the time I just sit on my ass, and nothing happens to me. But yesterday, I decided to do something and look what happens? So from now on, no work for me. It's not worth the risk. But it does look kinda cool I guess. I just have to wonder, well this mess up any future palm readings? I mean, isn't that the life line that I cut?

Oak Ridge Boys tackle White Stripes on new album

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The melody is dark, ominous and unmistakable to any rock fan: "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes. But this isn't Jack and Meg White. It's the Oak Ridge Boys. The vocal quartet best known for their country and gospel songs get edgy on their new CD, "The Boys Are Back." Besides the White Stripes, the Oaks cover John Lee Hooker ("Boom, Boom") and Neil Young ("Beautiful Bluebird").

"If there's something I could compare this to it would be what Johnny Cash did in the later part of his career," bass Richard Sterban said recently of Cash's recordings with rock/rap producer Rick Rubin. "I think the approach we used was very similar to that."

The quartet isn't totally going rock. The album has plenty of gospel and country songs, too, including tunes penned by Jamey Johnson and Shooter Jennings. Jennings, the son of the late Waylon Jennings and a country rocker in his own right, initiated the project. He invited them to sing with him on his 2007 album "The Wolf," introduced them to his producer, David Cobb, and asked them to perform at one of his shows.

"The place was jam packed with kids, much younger than we normally draw at this stage of our career," Sterban recalled. "We did 'Elvira' (their 1981 hit) and the kids knew every word. They were signing 'Oom papa mow mow' along with me.'" Pretty soon the group was heading into the studio with Cobb, who had them improvising, experimenting with different sounds and covering songs they never would have thought of.

"He challenged us," Sterban said. "At this stage of our career, we figured why not? We have nothing to lose." The move isn't completely out of step for the Oak Ridge Boys, which also include Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall and William Lee Golden. They began as a gospel group, crossed over to country and pop and recorded with artists as diverse as Ray Charles, Paul Simon, Johnny Cash and Brenda Lee.

Still, with songs like "Seven Nation Army," they're catching fans off guard at their shows.
"A lot of times they'll sit there with their mouths open. They can't believe we're doing this," Sterban said. And that's a good thing, Sterban said, because it shows the Oaks can still surprise — including themselves. "When I did 'Boom, Boom,' it was probably the most fun I'd ever had recording," Sterban said. "I'm a pretty straight-laced guy. But I was improvising and adding licks and having a bunch of fun."

It's being reported that the Idol votes may have been exaggerated for winner Kris Allen. Apparently AT&T representatives went to "viewing parties" with demo phones, and showed fans in Arkansas how to "power text" for Allen. The power texts would in effect be 10 votes for every text vote sent. Idol has released a statement saying the in no way was the voting affected by these "viewing parties." Whatever happened, the margin was reportedly so large that it wouldn't have helped Adam Lambert anyhow.

And, surprise of surprises, Kris Allen beat Adam Lambert (the guy who should have won) for the American Idol trophy. But, in thinking about it, maybe the runner-up is actually the winner. After all the don't have to record that God-Awful song that the winner is forced to sing. They're not contractually obligated to the American Idol franchise so they're free to do what they want. So why did Kris, who is an unbelievably talented singer in his own right, beat Adam Lambert considered by basically everyone to be a no brainer for the win? The obvious answer is, he got more votes. But I have a lot of theories, and I'll post them when I feel better. Right now, I feel like crap. So, in the interim, congratulations Kris and good luck Adam! I think we'll be hearing a lot from both of you!

OK, I know I've been a little slacking in the blogging department as of late. Too much going on in my life to go into, and actually, I don't want everyone on the Internet to be able to read it anyhow! But, I digress so, on to the updates.

The Weekend

I went home this weekend for Mama's Day. I have the best Mama in the world to, a little unconventional but, still she does more for me than any mother would ever probably do for a son like me (I'm not the best one sometimes) but she still puts up with me! That's my Mama and my niece Jalyn on the right.

Speaking of Jalyn, she's my 5 year old niece and she's a hoot, crazy about the Jonas Brothers. I'm still supposed to be getting her tickets for their concert (oops). But she's my baby and just about the sweetest little girl you would ever wanna meet. And I'm not one big biased either.

My Mom has 4 sisters and they lost their mother, my Nanny, about a year and half ago, they still haven't got over it. So, on Mother's Day Sunday, we all got together and and went to Nanny's grave. She still can't get rid of her family even in death. That's Nanny with Jalyn when she was barely 2 months old. And this is Nanny with all "her girls" at christmas one year.

Liz is on the far left, Jenny, Gail, Doris, Mom (Sue), and Nanny.

So that was my wild and crazy weekend. And it's one of the best weekends I've had in a long time.

Last night the Top 5 took the stage to sing the standards of the "Rat Pack." Why the hell Jamie Foxx was the mentor, I'll never know. But, on to what I think and who I think should get on a plane back to wherever they came from, starting with Matt Girad. How the hell is he still on this show? For starters, he looked like a homeless person last night, not Justin Timberlake (like he wants to be). Secondly, I'm tired of his nasally singing and his terrible falsetto. Get over yourself man. Seriously dude, you're going home tonight.

But, I'm a little afraid that Allison Iraheta may wind up going home. She's been in the bottom 3 several times when she did not deserve to be. And, while she's not one of my favorites, she still needs to stay longer than Matt. I'm still going with my pics of Adam and Kris in the finals!

Surviving Golden Girls Remark on Bea Arthur's Passing

As was reported Saturday, Bea Arthur passed away at the age of 86 following a battle with cancer. Fellow Golden Girls, Betty White and Rue McClanahan both have commented on the passing of their friend.

Rue McClanahan: I learned from her," said McClanahan, who worked with Arthur on "Maude" and "The Golden Girls." "I learned not comedy timing. I already knew that. We already had that together. I learned courage. I learned how to go out on a limb. Really go out on a limb. Go as far as you dared, and a little bit farther." White told Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen she would remember the times when Arthur would sometimes stop production of "The Golden Girls" with her laughing. "Every once in awhile, something would tickle Bea, and she'd get the giggles," White said. " ... In rehearsal, we'd get to that point, and she was gone. And it made it great fun." McClanahan added that she'll miss talking on the phone with Arthur. "I think I'll miss that voice."

Betty White: I knew it would hurt, I just didn't know it would hurt this much. I'm so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that. She was such a big part of my life."

Legendary actress Bea Arthur has passed away at the age of 86. She had been battling cancer. Arthur was most famous for her portrayal of Dorothy Zbornak on NBC's The Golden Girls and Maude Findlay on the series Maude. She will definitely be missed.

Only two of the principal cast of The Golden Girls survive, Betty White (Rose Nylund) and Rue McClanahan (Blanche Deveraux). Estelle Getty (Sophia Petrillo) passed away in 2008.

American Idol: Disco Night

Despite it's being Disco Night, the show was actually fairly tolerable. The clear winners of the night were Adam Lambert and Kris Allen (per usual). Losers; time for Matt Giraud, Lil Rounds, and Annop Desai to get their bags packed. If I were a gambling man, and I am, I would say Matt and Lil are heading to the house. It's about time for two of them, one I wish would stick around a little longer.
