Michael Jackson

I've deliberately waited to post anything about the death of Michael Jackson. For the past week, I've been processing all the news stories, all the rumors, all opinions and all the B.S. that surrounded this man in life, and now in death. Honestly, I'm not really sure what I feel about the King of Pop's passing. I know he has an unbreakable link to my childhood, in that the first record I remember owning (besides The Oak Ridge Boys of course) was Thriller, and I had the glove, and a Michael Jackson jacket. I remember being scared pissless the first time I saw the Thriller video. I remember when he did the moonwalk on the Motown 25th Anniversary celebration, I remember the Pepsi Commercial, I remember when the Black or White video first premiered. Then I remember the first allegations of improper behaviour, the kiss with Lisa Marie, the bizarre stunts, the trial, and now I remember exactly where I was when I heard he died.

Michael Jackson was a genius; a phenomenal talent in every sense of the word, a consummate performer. I have no way of knowing what went on in Michael Jackson's private life. It's obvious that the man was troubled, but most ultra-talented people are. So, as I stated in the beginning, I'm not really sure what I feel. I think blogger Emily Sutherland best summed up exactly what I think I feel about Michael Jackson by saying:

For the man who dared to be over-the-top remarkable on-stage, I applaud. But for the human being behind those dark glasses who spent his off-stage time trying to find that guy everyone loved so much, I grieve

Surviving Golden Girls Remark on Bea Arthur's Passing

As was reported Saturday, Bea Arthur passed away at the age of 86 following a battle with cancer. Fellow Golden Girls, Betty White and Rue McClanahan both have commented on the passing of their friend.

Rue McClanahan: I learned from her," said McClanahan, who worked with Arthur on "Maude" and "The Golden Girls." "I learned not comedy timing. I already knew that. We already had that together. I learned courage. I learned how to go out on a limb. Really go out on a limb. Go as far as you dared, and a little bit farther." White told Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen she would remember the times when Arthur would sometimes stop production of "The Golden Girls" with her laughing. "Every once in awhile, something would tickle Bea, and she'd get the giggles," White said. " ... In rehearsal, we'd get to that point, and she was gone. And it made it great fun." McClanahan added that she'll miss talking on the phone with Arthur. "I think I'll miss that voice."

Betty White: I knew it would hurt, I just didn't know it would hurt this much. I'm so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that. She was such a big part of my life."

Legendary actress Bea Arthur has passed away at the age of 86. She had been battling cancer. Arthur was most famous for her portrayal of Dorothy Zbornak on NBC's The Golden Girls and Maude Findlay on the series Maude. She will definitely be missed.

Only two of the principal cast of The Golden Girls survive, Betty White (Rose Nylund) and Rue McClanahan (Blanche Deveraux). Estelle Getty (Sophia Petrillo) passed away in 2008.
